PLAFDMMaterial
Overview
PLA is one of the most accessible materials for FDM printing. It is a good starting point for visual prototypes, concept models, low-load parts, and fast iterations.
Properties
| Property | Typical Behavior |
|---|---|
| Printability | High |
| Rigidity | Medium-high |
| Heat resistance | Low |
| Impact resistance | Medium-low |
| Surface finish | Good |
Compatible Processes
In the Fabberworks taxonomy, PLA belongs to the FDM material axis. It is not used for SLA or CNC.
Recommended Uses
- Visual prototype
- Ergonomic model
- Presentation part
- Low-temperature fixture
Troubleshooting
If the part will sit in sunlight or a warm environment, consider PETG, ABS, or an engineering-grade material instead of PLA. Leave tolerance around fitted surfaces and choose print orientation based on mechanical load.
